Hays Academy - Program Overview
The "Hays Academy program" (Rec+ or Rec Plus) is designed for the U9 & U10 recreational player who desires professional training and the opportunity to play with like-minded peers. This is strictly a developmental program. The program is built around creating an environment for youth players to excel both technically and tactically. Although still a fun based learning program players are expected to demonstrate focus and a willingness to compete and develop as they continue to evolve a love of the game. The emphasis with our younger players is on the development of individual skills, which serve as the fundamentals of the game. Our trainers strive to ensure that each player first develops the technical ball skills followed by development of tactical abilities. The program's emphasis is on the development of the player first and performance of the team second rather than wins and losses. It is our experience that focusing on wins at the younger ages does not translate into success at the older ages unless players learn and understand more of the game through age-appropriate training sessions that focus on player development.
Team Formation
The "Hays Academy" is open to all U9 and U10 Girls and Boys. Players are divided into U9 and U10 age groups. The age group for a player shall be determined by the player's age as of August 1st - July 31st (ex: 8/01/98 - 7/31/99). There are no tryouts, and 50% play per half is strictly enforced. Games will be played against other Academy teams throughout the Austin area.
Each team is also assigned as many as two 'Volunteer Assistant Coaches', these individuals are present at both training sessions and games. All volunteer assistant coaches are selected by HYSA's Select Commissioner and adhere to all rules and philosophies pertaining to this program. Volunteer assistant coaches are in charge of practices only in the absence of the professional trainer. Their primary role is to coach the game and to assist the professional coach in setting up practices. We plan on fielding both boys and girls teams in each age group and level of rec+.
Practice
All "Hays Academy" teams will train twice per week (1.5 hours) with qualified and experienced HYSA Academy trainer(s).
